London Bucket List: 10 Things Worth Crossing the Pond For

A lot of you keep asking about London. So here's the CBL starter kit: the ten things worth the trip, and the one pass that makes them all cheaper.

London Bucket List: 10 Things Worth Crossing the Pond For

Most of what we write about is closer to home, but London keeps coming up in our inbox. Enough that it's earned its own post. So consider this your CBL London starter kit: the ten things actually worth crossing the pond for, plus the one move that makes the whole trip cheaper.

First, the honest part. London adds up fast. The Tower of London, a Thames cruise, the view from up high, a West End show. Buy those one ticket at a time and you're into triple digits before your first pint.

That's why the first thing we'd plan around is a Go City London pass. The All-Inclusive Pass covers 110+ attractions for one price (from £99, pick 1 to 10 days). The Explorer Pass lets you cherry-pick 2 to 7 experiences from 70+ (from £64) if you'd rather go at your own pace.

London deal, ends August 23. 15% off the All-Inclusive Pass (110+ attractions), or 10% off the Explorer Pass. Use code LONDON at checkout. Check prices and grab the pass here, then enter code LONDON.

The London Bucket List

A mix of the big-ticket stuff (much of it on the pass) and the free things locals love.

1. The Tower of London. A thousand years of history, the Crown Jewels, and the ravens they swear keep the kingdom standing. (On the pass.) 2. A Thames river cruise. The fastest way to understand the city is from the water, Westminster down to Greenwich. 3. Up high at golden hour. The Shard, or the free Sky Garden if you book ahead. Either way the skyline goes gold. 4. Westminster Abbey and Parliament. The postcard shot outside, 700 years of coronations inside. (The Abbey's on the pass.) 5. The British Museum. The Rosetta Stone, the Egyptian halls, and it won't cost you a penny. Give it a full morning. 6. Borough Market. Eat your way through: a salt-beef bagel, a flat white, cheese you'll think about for weeks. 7. A proper Sunday roast. Find an old pub, order the beef, stay for a second pint. This is the one locals tell you not to skip. 8. St Paul's Cathedral. Climb to the Whispering Gallery and hear the dome do its trick. (On the pass.) 9. Covent Garden and a West End show. Street performers by day, the best theatre in the world by night. 10. A slow walk. The South Bank at sunset, or Portobello Road on a Saturday morning. The best London memories are usually the free ones.

London rewards a little planning. Sort the pass, pick your ten, and leave room for the walk.
